History

The Association was incorporated in June 2003 as a company limited by guarantee under the laws of Hong Kong and was originally known as the Hong Kong Medical and Healthcare Device Manufacturing Association, as most of the members were manufacturers or contract manufacturers.

The Association was subsequently renamed as Hong Kong Medical and Healthcare Device Industries Association in October 2008 as our membership grew substantially and covered the entire value chain in the medical device industries including design house, components manufacturers, trades and companies which provide testing and certification services; whether they are local and multinational corporations.

Starting from March 2025, Hong Kong Medical and Healthcare Device Industries Association is renaming as Hong Kong MedTech Association (HKMTA).

The medical technology landscape has transformed dramatically. What was once defined primarily by physical devices now encompasses cutting-edge advancements in artificial intelligence, digital health, telemedicine, robotics, and data-driven diagnostics. The term “MedTech” has emerged globally as an inclusive descriptor of this evolution, capturing the synergy between medicine and technology.

The renaming symbolizes our continuous drive to foster innovation, strengthen industry collaborations and advance healthcare solutions. Together, we shape the next era of MedTech innovation.

Our new association logo demonstrates collaborating medical professionals, Research & Development, manufacturers, patients and consumers, regulatory body, academics and international industrial stakeholders to cultivate the practice of co-operation and integration with mutual benefits.
